Pre-School

Welcome.

The DISDH Pre-School:
“A Place to Learn and Play”

Children are little explorers. From the age of 5, children in the Netherlands are required to attend school and join the pre-school group at DISDH. The close collaboration between kindergarten, pre-school, and primary school allows children a very smooth transition to the next stage. Here, we nurture our pre-schoolers natural curiosity and readiness to learn, strengthening their abilities and competencies.

SECURE AND TRUSTING BONDS:

In the pre-school, we place great value on an outstanding staff-to-child ratio to ensure that the individual needs of each child can be optimally met. Our team consists of dedicated and qualified professionals who lovingly care for the development and well-being of the children. The group has designated educators who build trusting relationships with the children and accompany them in their personal development. This continuity creates a stable environment where children feel secure and can unfold their full potential.

PREPARING FOR SCHOOL:

We follow a holistic learning process. Preparation for school challenges not only requires methodical skills but also the strengthening of individual competencies. Self-confidence, self-help skills, communication abilities, and conflict resolution strategies play a crucial role, as does the promotion of independent work.

TRUSTED COLLABORATION:

Close collaboration with parents is also a priority for us. We view families as important partners in education and place great emphasis on maintaining open and regular communication.

LIGHT-FILLED ROOMS WITH OUTDOOR SPACE:

In our child-friendly spaces, children can expect an atmosphere full of brightness and inspiring energy.

FIRST DAYS IN PRE-SCHOOL:

Integration is possible throughout the year.

Primary School

Welcome.
The DISDH Primary School:
“A place to discover and develop”

The Primary School of the German International School The Hague (DISDH) is proud to bear the seal of excellence “Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule.” For more than 150 years, we have been offering top-quality education. Our language of instruction is German. Through our expanded language learning program including Dutch and English, we provide children with additional foreign languages from an early age. This allows children to gain a unique international perspective alongside the content of the German curriculum.

HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT:

In a personal atmosphere, we aim for joy in living and learning. This is experienced daily by our primary school students. We highly value peer-to-peer learning and collective growth. For us, education means the holistic development of personal, social, academic, and methodological competencies. Our primary school is a place where children not only feel comfortable but also can unfold their potential. We encourage every child to develop step by step into a confident, independent individual while maintaining their curious outlook on the world.

EXPERIENCED AND HIGHLY QUALIFIED EDUCATORS:

Our teachers, all from German-speaking regions and highly qualified, provide personalized care for each class. They are reliable points of contact for students as well as for you as parents.

THE GERMAN CURRICULUM PRIORITIZES EXCELLENCE AND QUALITY IN EDUCATION:

Our educational offerings align with the current educational plan of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Additionally, we are a member of the Association of German International Schools.

LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY AND MORE IS INTEGRATED EARLY INTO THE EDUCATIONAL OFFERING:

As a German school with an international focus, linguistic diversity is a natural and important part of our offering from the outset. Extracurricular activities in experiential education, nature excursions, readings, theater and museum visits, as well as shared projects with surrounding schools complement this.

PERSPECTIVES ON EXPANDING OUR OFFERINGS:

The primary school offers space for living together and learning together in the morning. We plan to expand our offerings starting from the school year 24/25 into the afternoon.

We value comprehensive support and care for our students to best meet their individual needs.

Table of hours:

In which subjects and to what extent are students taught in primary school? Here you can find our table of hours for Grades 1 to 4.

Individual support

At DISDH, we place special emphasis on the individual support of our students.

German as a Foreign Language Instruction:

If German is not the child’s native language, we offer individual support in a small learning group with German as a Foreign Language (DaF) within our range of classes. Specially trained educators can support and nurture your child here.

Parental Consultation:

To meet the shared educational responsibility of school and home, we place great importance on good cooperation and exchange. Twice within a school year, we offer you and your child a consultative learning development discussion.

Additional support

With two dedicated support hours integrated into the timetable each week, we offer an effective way to identify emerging difficulties early and accompany them as best as possible. We create individual support plans for students with special educational needs and enable a pedagogical performance assessment that meets the individual needs and abilities of the child.

If you have any questions regarding support or individual assistance options for your child, we are here to assist you. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION:

Our language of instruction is German. This is important to ensure that students receive a solid foundation in the German language, enabling them to navigate successfully within the German education system.

ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE OFFERINGS:

Dutch:

With our two-hour Dutch language program, we support not only the development of linguistic diversity among our students but also facilitate communication in Dutch everyday life, opening doors and further enabling integration.

English:

As an international school, it is our priority to offer English lessons with 2 hours per week from Grade 1 onwards.

Medienkompetenz

Media Literacy

At the primary school level, learning already takes place with and through digital media. Through the targeted use of school-owned iPads, DISDH provides primary school students with the opportunity to practice an interactive and meaningful use of digital media in class and for their own learning.

Swimming lessons

DISDH is one of the few, if not the only school in The Hague to offer swimming lessons in primary school. It is particularly important to us that our pupils learn to swim at an early age – especially in a city close to the sea, this is invaluable.

With our swimming lessons, we want to help your children deal with the dangers of the water safely and confidently. And the best thing is that this important service is already included in the annual school fees.

At DISDH, your children learn not just for school, but for life!

DISDH Nachmittagsbetreuung

Afternoon care

We start the afternoon together with a warm meal from the cafeteria, and later in the afternoon, the children receive a snack. After lunch, under pedagogical guidance, the children complete their homework. Relaxation and free activities are at the center of our program. During free playtimes, children can decide whether they prefer building, painting, reading, or playing outside. Regular excursions to the beach, forest, as well as various museums, are part of our program.

The supervised afternoon program for our primary school children runs every day until either 3:30 pm or 6:00 pm, depending on preference.
