Trial Day

Your child has the opportunity to get to know our school during a trial day. They can take part in regular lessons for one or more hours, depending on their wishes. We recommend that you take advantage of this offer, as trial days make it easier for your child to settle in at DISDH. When they can meet their future classmates and teachers and already know what the new classroom looks like, they get an idea of what our school is like. So the first real day of school at DISDH won’t be quite as exciting.

New at the School

The first time at the new school is particularly exciting for your child. We do everything we can to make the transition to our school as easy and pleasant as possible for your child. In doing so, we want your child to feel at home in their new environment quickly and to be able to identify with their new school. To make it easier for them to get started, DISDH gives them two fellow pupils as mentors, who are their contact persons and help them find their way around during the first few weeks. This way, your child will quickly find their way around and make new friends. At DISDH, we have a lot of experience in welcoming and integrating new children into the school community.

DISDH neu an der Schule

Each of our pupils is familiar with the situation of starting anew at a school. Our teachers take special care of our newcomers and make sure that they feel comfortable and enjoy their new school.

After 2-3 weeks, there will be a meeting with the grade leader and you as parents to share the first experiences and to talk about how your child is settling in at DISDH. We will discuss your child’s learning progress and social development and inform you about our individual support services.

We also want to warmly welcome our new parents to our school and make it easier for them to get started. That’s why we have an expat manager at our side as a service who can help you with all your questions about moving, registering in the Netherlands, etc.

FAQs application

Can you guarentee me a place for my child?

No, unfortunately we cannot always guarantee you a place. Due to the high level of interest, we recommend that you contact us as early as possible so that we can consider your registration.

Is there a waiting list?

We can usually find space for all our interested families.  Should all available enrolments in a grade be filled, we will – of course – maintain a waiting list. You are welcome to call us for more information on this.

Can my child be admitted in the current school year?

We regularly enrol children in the current school year, subject to capacity. Please contact us, and we will be happy to clarify the possibilities in a timely manner.

Is there a registration deadline?

There is no registration deadline, but due to the high level of interest, we recommend that you contact us as early as possible.

From what age can my child be admitted to kindergarten?

We accept children from the age of 2.5 years.

Does my child need to know German?

The language of instruction at our school is German. In order to be able to support your child in the best possible way, its knowledge of German may be tested. Depending on the age of the child, we also accept children with no prior knowledge of German.

Does my child need support/tutoring or is it offered?

At DISDH we determine individually whether and in which areas your child needs special support. In consultation with the parents, we then design a support programme tailored to your child that corresponds to its level of knowledge and considers personal talents. Support may be necessary, for example, if a new pupil needs to catch up in certain subjects in order to reach the level of the class. We also offer special German lessons for our non-native speaking students.

Is there a school bus?

No, there is no separate school bus. However, ESA/Estec offers a bus connection to DISDH for the children of their employees.

Is DISDH an all-day school?

Here you will find our teaching times (https://www.disdh.nl/de-de/praktischeinfo/unterrichtszeiten.aspx)
Kindergarten and pre-school:
You have the choice between half-day or full-day care.
Primary school: We offer an afternoon programme until 18h.

Secondary school: Classes are also held in the afternoon. We also offer an afternoon programme for pupils in grades 5 to 7.

Do parents have to buy school books?

Yes. As a service to you, the school cooperates with a bookshop in Germany. The textbooks can be ordered through the school there and delivered to the school. On the first day of school, the books will then be ready for your child in the DISDH.

What documents do I need to submit for registration?

Please submit the following documents:

– The completed registration form signed by both parents/guardians,

– copies of your most recent school reports,

– copy of certificate,

– copy of identity card
